Established in 1905, Darlington School is an independent, coeducational, college-preparatory school for average to superior students in grades PK-12 and PG, with boarding beginning at grade 9. The school emphasizes traditional studies and expects its students to develop competence in English, mathematics, history, science, a foreign language, technology and an appreciation of the fine arts. Darlington seeks to develop the best of academic and social growth for each of its students. The school offers special academies in soccer and tennis as well as a Music Conservatory program.

Each year, Darlington enrolls approximately 950 students in grades pre-K to 12. The school community represents an average of 25 states and 30 countries worldwide. Stretching for more than 400 acres, Darlington’s campus is nestled around a small lake in the foothills of the Lookout Mountain Range in Rome, Ga., a medical center and college town located one hour from Atlanta and Chattanooga, Tenn.

Resident students live in one of six houses on campus, three for boys and three for girls, each managed by a full-time head of house and faculty members who live on campus. Residential staff are dedicated to the unique needs of young people. With 55 percent of Darlington’s faculty living on campus, there is never a shortage of helping hands when a student needs extra guidance on a homework assignment, advice about a friend, a shoulder to lean on, or someone to share in his or her successes.

International students attend class, play sports, perform on stage, join clubs, and live with English-speaking students. This provides them the opportunity to make friends and communicate in English on a regular basis. ESL (English as a Second Language) classes are also offered to help students improve their speaking and writing abilities.

Darlington understands that international students are far from home. That’s why support is the school's number one priority. A committee comprised of eight international students meets regularly with the director of international students to come up with new and exciting ways to educate our community about the different cultures represented within our student body.
