School Profile
Arlington High School has been one of the best public schools in the state for hockey for most of the 20th century. In addition to the excellent hockey team, Arlington High School boasts three championship teams for the Fall 2006 season. The Girls Cross Country team, Girls Soccer team and Field Hockey team each finished first in the Greater Boston League. The Girls Soccer Team was also the Division II North State Champions 2006. In 2006 and 2007 the Spy Ponders Boys Lacrosse Team won the Greater Boston League title and went on to the Division II State Tournament.
Community Profile
Arlington, Massachusetts is a suburban community located 7 miles northwest of Boston. Its population consists of a large proportion of academic, business and professional families. Members of the community regularly avail themselves to the cultural, educational, and athletic facilities in the Greater Boston area. The community recently (2005) voted a tax override to support increases to the education budget.
Boston, first incorporated as a town in 1630, and as a city in 1822, is one of America's oldest cities, with a rich economic and social history. What began as a homesteading community eventually evolved into a center for social and political change. Boston has since become the economic and cultural hub of New England. As the region's hub, Boston is home to nearly 590,000 residents, many institutions of higher education, some of the world's finest inpatient hospitals, and numerous cultural and professional sports organizations. Millions of people visit Boston to take in its historic neighborhoods, attend cultural or sporting events, and conduct business.
